If you have questions about these Terms, you can email support@subsmith.app.
SubSmith is a desktop application that generates timestamped subtitles and transcripts from local video and audio files using on-device speech recognition (Whisper), and helps you turn those transcripts into flashcards, including one-click export to Anki. These Terms govern your use of the SubSmith application and the subsmith.app website (together, the "Service").
By downloading, installing, or using SubSmith, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
If you're not happy with your purchase, email support@subsmith.app within 14 days of payment for a full refund. Requests outside this window are considered on a case-by-case basis.
You agree to use SubSmith only for lawful purposes. You may not:
SubSmith — the application, branding, and website — is owned by the SubSmith project. Your subscription grants you a personal, non-transferable license to use the application; it doesn't transfer ownership of the software to you.
Any video, audio, transcripts, or flashcards you create using SubSmith remain yours. Since transcription happens locally on your device, I don't receive or store copies of your media files.
SubSmith is built on open-source components, including Whisper and FFmpeg. See the Acknowledgements page for licenses.
The Service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. Transcription accuracy depends on audio quality, language, and the underlying Whisper model, and I don't guarantee error-free transcripts.
To the extent permitted by law, SubSmith isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom.
I may update these Terms occasionally. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
